Penn State Chains Tattoos Dreads And We Are Shirt– Penn State issues statement on ‘‘Chains, tattoos, dreads, and We Are’ warmup t-shirts
In a statement provided to The Athletic, the school said:
“While we are supportive of our students expressing themselves in a thoughtful manner, they are expected to wear team-issued apparel on game day. We asked our students to remove the shirts out of an abundance of caution for NCAA compliance.”
Only a few players donned the shirts, which appeared to come from Champs Bar in State College, and a staffer eventually took them away.
The shirts were yet another sign of support for Jonathan Sutherland, who received a controversial letter from Johnstown’s Dave Petersen earlier this week that complained about the safety’s dreadlocks.
